Berlin Program—Circular Economy In the Built Environment: A Utopia?
Circular economy, recycling-friendly construction, reuse, and reuse of building components – these buzzwords are on everyone's lips. But what is the circular economy in the built environment, what is currently being worked on – and what is likely to change in the future? In this lecture, we not only want to ask about the latest state of the art in recycling, but also to venture an assessment: Is it realistic that the cities of today will be the raw materials of tomorrow - or will the idea of a residue-free recycling of our buildings into technical or biological cycles forever remain a dream?

Online Program—Building with Wood: Potentials and Opportunities
Germany is supposed to be climate neutral by 2045. In order to achieve this ambitious goal, the building construction industry must increasingly rely on sustainable renewable raw materials. Timber construction offers excellent potential for this. Nevertheless, it is often left out. But why is that the case? At our online event, experts will present innovative wood projects and new wood composites and demonstrate the scalability of timber construction using current project examples, followed by a discussion on the potential and opportunities of timber construction.

Stuttgart Program—D1244: The First Adaptive Skyscraper in the World
Scientists at the University of Stuttgart are investigating at a 1:1 scale how buildings can actively adapt to changing environmental influences. The prototype, D1244 is part of the Collaborative Research Centre, and studies "Adaptive shells and structures for the built environment of tomorrow". This building study uniquely integrates sensors and actuators within the load-bearing structure and the façade, setting a precedent for potential intelligent and adaptive structures of the future. The event will explain these concepts further and will be followed by a tour to the tower, which will deliver a closer look at these developments.

Frankfurt—FOUR: A Mega Construction Site in the Heart of Frankfurt's City Center
One of the largest construction sites in Germany is currently located in the middle of Frankfurt's city center. Four high-rise buildings, designed by the architectural firm UNStudio, are under construction and projected to provide jobs and flats for thousands of people. However, it is not only the four high-rises themselves that play a major role in this development, but also the urban environment. Shops, restaurants, and a day-care center will be located in a new, six-story basement building to revitalize the area for the public. But how do you organize a mega construction site located in the heart of the city, surrounded by dense development? During our visit to the construction site, we will not only look at the architecture of FOUR, but also question the project’s logistics and engineering.
